Verve AI Analysis Reveals Why 93% of Qualified Job Candidates Still Freeze in Interviews

Oct 6, 2026

New research highlighted by Verve AI shows 93% of job candidates face interview anxiety, driving demand for real-time live interview support.

San Jose, California, October 6, 2026 -- Verve AI, a real-time interview support platform now used by more than 50,000 active candidates, is highlighting new industry research showing that interview anxiety plays a significant role in preventing qualified candidates from converting interviews into job offers, even after hours of preparation.

The analysis comes as more employers rely on structured video interviews and AI-assisted recruitment tools, raising the stakes for candidates in a hiring process that increasingly happens on screen rather than in person.

According to a JDP report cited by StandOut CV, 93% of people have experienced interview-related anxiety. That figure holds even though, according to Indeed, candidates typically spend five to ten hours preparing for a single interview. The results suggest that preparation alone isn't translating into interview performance: only 24% of candidates say they're happy with how the interview process actually goes, according to JobScore.

"We've spoken with thousands of candidates using Verve who knew the answer cold and still froze the second the interviewer looked at them," said Aileen Wu, Founder of Verve AI. "That's not a knowledge problem. That's what we built Verve to fix."

Verve AI provides real-time, private support during live interviews, helping candidates respond clearly under pressure without changing what they actually know or have done. The platform responds in under 300 milliseconds and supports interviews in more than 55 languages.

It works across Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex, and covers behavioral, technical, and coding interview formats. Candidates managing ADHD, interview anxiety, and re-entry after a career break are among those using the platform.

"Preparation gets you the knowledge," Wu said. "It doesn't always get you the delivery. That's the piece we're solving for."

North Korean silence signals Trump-Kim summit unlikely: US, South Korean officials

US and South Korean officials see the chances fading of a meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this year, according to five people with knowledge of the situation. Trump, the only US president to have met a North Korean leader, has been eager to jump-start talks with North Korea, but Pyongyang has shown little interest in diplomacy aimed at containing its nuclear programme. The US has received no response from North Korea on holding a Trump-Kim meeting, and...

‘I am not resigning’: embattled leader digs in as Malaysia royal crisis deepens

Embattled Negeri Sembilan chief minister Ismail Lasim has denied claims that he has resigned, as a constitutional crisis in the Malaysian state spiralled further following a move by his executive council to challenge their sacking by the state’s ruler in court. The state has been all but paralysed by a dispute that began in April over who has the right to sit on Negeri Sembilan’s throne, bringing down a state government aligned with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH)...

Australia sanctions 2 over North Korean fake IT workers scheme for nuclear funds

Australia said on Friday it had sanctioned two North Korean individuals and companies over the use of “fraudulent” IT workers and cybercrime to earn cash for the isolated nuclear-armed state. The two men are alleged to be key operators in Pyongyang’s cybercriminal activities overseas, estimated by analysts to bring in billions for the country’s weapons programme. “The North Korean entities and individuals sanctioned today facilitate North Korea’s use of fraudulent IT workers to raise revenue for...

Nepal set to receive first-ever US$20 million payout from UN climate damage fund

The United Nations’ climate loss and damage fund moved to provide US$20 million in aid sought by flood-stricken Nepal – the first time it has set aside money for any country – in a key test of the body’s credibility. In an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, the fund’s board agreed to earmark the modest sum for the Himalayan country, which was hit in August by tsunami-like floods triggered by a climate-induced ice and rock avalanche that killed more than 1,400 people and left over 5,000...

Inflation-squeezed Japanese flock to claw machines dangling everyday items

With one eye on her baby in a stroller, Minae Kamata operates an arcade machine in a Tokyo suburb, manipulating a claw to grab not a stuffed toy but a pack of toilet paper. As inflation weighs on Japanese households, huge arcades on the outskirts of major cities are installing claw machines filled with eggs, rice, laundry detergent and other necessities. The “shop-and-play destinations” merge essential buying with entertainment so that families do not feel a choice between bringing home the...
