Businesses need to understand the growing popularity of social media and ensure they have a brand presence on the networks preferred by their target audience, SocialAssist.co.uk reports

Bury, Lancashire - September 2, 2016 /MarketersMedia/ —
Avocado Social reports social media usage has witnessed 8.7 percent growth in an eight month period, as the internet has increased its user base by 225 million people. Approximately 1.5 billion individuals use Facebook every month, with 31 million residing in the UK, and many younger internet users now turn to WeChat, Viber and more to connect with others. Companies need to keep figures such as these in mind and develop a social media strategy that targets their desired audience.
"Businesses must understand that different age groups prefer different social networks, and this is one area where our social media training becomes of help. For example, 14 million people in the UK make use of Instagram, yet this popular network tends to be most popular with those in the 16-24 age group. Thirty nine percent of Instagram users in the country fall into this group, thus companies marketing to this specific demographic need to ensure they have a presence on the site," Nick Kernick, spokesperson for Social Assist, explains.
Twitter doesn't report on its user base as frequently as some social networks, but announced they had 15 million users in the UK in 2013. However, information was released in 2015 stating Instagram has outpaced this site in terms of users, and companies need to be aware of changes such as this when creating their social media strategy. What worked a few short years ago may not be relevant today.
"Our goal is to ensure each company remains in the public eye at all times and for the right reasons. We post varied articles that are designed to entertain visitors and result in the articles being shared. This helps to show a brand is a leader in their industry. In addition, image posts are placed on various social networking sites, and we assist with other areas of social media management when it comes to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram," Kernick continues.
This does not mean other social networking sites can be ignored. Google Plus truly never took off, but remains popular with younger kids in the UK. Forty one percent of English users fall into the 18-24 age group, and SnapChat has taken off across the globe. It has doubled its number of users in a very short period of time, yet doesn't provide information on which group prefers to make use of it, but it appears to be the youth here also.
The goal is to determine which social networking sites are preferred by the target audience and focus on those sites. Items posted may include information on the latest company news, social competitions, sales on goods and services and more. Each business has their own unique goals and the strategy must work to address these goals. We ensure that is does when it comes to social media," Kernick declares.

Four Indonesian seamen who were kidnapped and held hostage by Somali pirates aboard an oil tanker for more than five months arrived back home on Tuesday. The men were among 17 crew rescued a week ago when maritime police from the semi-autonomous region of Puntland in northern Somalia stormed the Palau-flagged MT Honour 25 tanker that was hijacked in April. Before the vessel could be recaptured, the pirates had already killed five crew members – three Pakistanis, an Indian and a Myanmar national...

Risks to Southeast Asia’s energy supplies are multiplying faster than nations are coming up with solutions to meet rapidly rising demand for electricity, according to an International Energy Agency report released on Tuesday. Southeast Asia has a seemingly insatiable appetite for energy, but the region is now in a pinch as energy costs rise, partly due to the Iran war. Fast-growing Southeast Asian economies also need more electricity to power data centres and keep homes and businesses cool. To...
The latest US-China summit covered a wide range of topics including artificial intelligence (AI). However, the official readouts from both countries did not touch upon an issue that has generated heated debate: whether the United States and China should agree to pause or slow down the development of frontier AI. That absence has triggered considerable discussion. During my recent visit to New York, many US friends asked whether Beijing would ever agree to some form of arrangement. Before...
Indian police detained several opposition lawmakers in the capital of New Delhi on Tuesday for trying to breach barricades during a protest march to demand the resignation of the election chief over a controversial revision of voter lists. The march presents a fresh political challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi midway into his third term, just months after similar protests forced the resignation of his education minister over exam paper leaks. Parties opposing Modi’s government along with...
On September 22, the global artificial intelligence landscape spun on its axis within a matter of hours. In Beijing, Xiaomi engineers went live with an unusual broadcast, streaming the training run of their new MiMo-V2.6 model. In San Francisco, Anthropic unveiled its frontier Opus 5.5 model. About an hour later, OpenAI crashed the party with the surprise release of its GPT-6 Sol and Luna models. For tech executives and developers trying to keep pace, it was just another overwhelming day in the...
