On July 2nd, 2022 from 10am to 4pm, New Heaven New Earth Church of Jesus (NHNE) will host a blood drive through Versiti Blood Center, expected to donate blood in an effort to address the national blood shortage in the USA through local cooperation.
Chicago, Illinois Jun 15, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - New Heaven New Earth Church of Jesus in the Midwest will partner with Versiti Blood Center to host a blood drive to address the national blood shortage ahead of the high demand that comes with Independence Day celebrations. Versiti Blood Center of Illinois serves 63 hospitals in a 12-county area in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, and collects more than 155,000 units of blood annually. With blood shortages on the rise, especially during summer months when frequent donors travel and students are out of school, New Heaven New Earth Church is inviting all to "join the effort and save lives".
The blood drive will be held from 10am to 4pm CST at Oliver McCracken Middle School. New Heaven New Earth Church of Jesus is inviting members of the local communities to attend the blood drive. In addition, interested donors who are not able to attend the July 2nd drive can also participate by registering to donate at any of Versiti Blood Center's donation centers (https://www.versiti.org/ways-to-give/our-communities) under the sponsor code "NHNE".
The Midwest New Heaven New Earth Church was inspired to host a blood drive of its own following the unprecedented over 18,500 blood donors from its counterpart in South Korea, Shincheonji Church. Within 2 weeks, the unprecedented act of blood donation resolved the national blood shortage in South Korea, producing an estimated 3.5 days of blood reserve. According to the Korean Red Cross Blood Management Headquarters, a day of blood reserve is equivalent to 5,029 units of blood, which is the average amount of blood used per day by medical institutions across the country.
In the United States of the 35 percent of people who are eligible, only 10 percent donate blood.
Since 2004, on June 14th, the World Health Organization has observed World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) to encourage all countries to acknowledge and promote the critically selfless actions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors who save lives. This day was created to raise global awareness regarding the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusions, in addition to supporting organizations that run voluntary blood donor programs.
This year, the slogan of World Blood Donor Day is "Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives". Activities that countries are encouraged to implement include sharing with media outlets stories of people who have benefitted from blood donation and motivating donations by people in good health who haven't previously donated blood.
On World Blood Donor Day, all eligible donors are encouraged to donate blood as an act of solidarity to save lives. Even a single donation can help trauma victims, premature babies, surgery patients, people with sickle cell anemia and more. Blood shortages have been exasperated by the COVID-19 pandemic and can be felt globally.
The uniqueness of blood means that it cannot be made synthetically, and hospitals can only receive blood from voluntary donors - meaning the decision to donate blood is truly a selfless act of life-giving.
Who can donate?
In most states, blood donors must be at least 16 years of age (with parental consent), with a minimum weight of 110 lbs and not experiencing symptoms of cold or flu.
What can you expect when donating?
The donation process is segmented into 5 parts: registration, questionnaire, mini-physical, blood collection, and refreshments.
The process for whole blood donation typically lasts about one hour, though the blood collection itself is usually about 10 minutes.
Add sponsor code "NHNE" during registration to participate in this life-giving campaign hosted by NHNE Church of Jesus.
Consider the importance of blood, which cannot be re-created and only freely given. Give an hour, save a life.
Pre-registration for the July 2nd Blood Drive is currently open: https://forms.gle/jDP1hiU19UDAF5Nn7
