New Guide, "Can You Publish An AI-Written Book?", Draws A Line At Authorship

Oct 31, 2026

Authority Acquisition explains Amazon KDP and U.S. Copyright Office rules distinguishing AI-generated from AI-assisted books, helping nonfiction authors publish confidently while preserving authorship, disclosure compliance, and copyright protection.

Torrance, United States, October 31, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- Authority Acquisition has issued guidance to help nonfiction authors and experts understand what Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing platform and the U.S. Copyright Office require when artificial intelligence tools enter the book-writing process. The guidance draws a line between "AI-generated" content, which triggers disclosure obligations, and "AI-assisted" work, which does not. As more experts turn to AI tools while developing books, understanding that distinction has become important to publishing without complications.

Confusion over these rules can stall an expert's plans before a manuscript is finished. Amazon's content guidelines, current as of September 2026, and the Copyright Office's registration guidance issued in 2023 ask the same underlying question: not whether AI played a role, but whether a human authored the final result. Content that a person creates, even with AI assistance for editing or brainstorming, carries no disclosure requirement on Amazon and remains eligible for copyright protection. Content generated wholesale by an AI tool must be disclosed to Amazon, and the Copyright Office will not extend protection to those portions, even as it registers the human-authored parts of the same work.

Publishers and industry bodies have reached similar conclusions independently. The Authors Guild recommends contract clauses that require authors to disclose AI-generated text and that cap the amount of AI-generated prose allowed in a manuscript. In a survey of more than 1,700 writers conducted in 2023, the Authors Guild found that 23 percent used generative AI somewhere in their writing process, and among those who did, only about 7 percent used it to generate the text of their work. Editorial bodies in scholarly publishing generally agree that AI systems cannot be listed as authors, on the reasoning that authorship requires accountability, which a tool cannot provide. Across a retail platform, a copyright regime, and academic publishing, the same boundary appears: AI functions as a tool rather than a named author.

Authority Acquisition helps experts turn their methods into books, connected reader journeys, and the work that follows. That work includes helping authors understand where AI can responsibly support the writing process without compromising authorship or running afoul of platform and copyright rules, treating a book as a foundation for what follows rather than a standalone project completed and set aside.

Central to that approach is the company's Author-to-Authority Roadmap, which helps authors clarify their reader, the problem they solve, and the method they are positioned to teach before drafting begins. From there, the roadmap supports building a full book ecosystem, including self-guided learning, live workshops, and coaching, all developed with human authorship at the core of each stage.

A book often serves as a reader's first encounter with an expert's method, and its value rests on the author's judgment, experience, and point of view. A language model predicts likely word patterns drawn from what has already been written on a subject, so what it returns is the consensus. The observations that distinguish a practitioner's book were never recorded anywhere a model could learn from. AI tools can support the work but cannot substitute for it. Authority Acquisition positions itself as a guide for authors who want to use AI responsibly while keeping their authorship and authority intact.

Informed use of AI, grounded in disclosure and human authorship, protects both a book and the work that follows it. Additional details on Authority Acquisition's approach to books and author-led work can be found at https://authorityacquisition.co/p/007-authors

Dark past of Japan’s Unit 731 buried under airport expansion

A village that sent hundreds of men to one of imperial Japan’s most notorious wartime units is being demolished to make way for a runway at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. Unit 731 carried out lethal experiments on captives, many of them Chinese, to develop biological weapons during the second world war. Around 300 of its roughly 3,000 personnel came from Kamo, a neighbourhood in Shibayama town, Chiba prefecture, east of the capital. Its founder and commander, Lieutenant General Shiro...

The flaw in Australia’s ‘China threat’ thesis

Australia’s preparations for a possible conflict with China reflect “a relatively superficial understanding”, argues prominent economist John Edwards. Europe, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, he notes, are not preparing for such a conflict. Why should Australia? Edwards, a former senior economic adviser to former Labor prime minister Paul Keating, makes the observation in a Lowy Institute paper released in October and in a newspaper interview. Instead, he sees US-China rivalry as a...
