Fostering China-Indonesia Cross-Border Collaboration in Technical Education

Oct 28, 2026

JAKARTA, Indonesia, October 28, 2026 -- On 26 October 2026, FangChengGang Polytechnic School of China and Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA) of Indonesia held the unveiling ceremony of the China-Indonesia International Technical Collaboration Partnership Centre in a hybrid online and offline format. The unveiling marks the school’s first inter-institutional cooperation with an Indonesian university and is an important practical outcome of its efforts to serve the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen its opening-up toward ASEAN.

The ceremony began at 15:00 Beijing time. Attendees included Mr. Zhao Guobao, Principal of Fangchenggang Polytechnic School; Ms. Xuan Hanling, Secretary of School; Prof. Ir. Alfirano, ST., MT., Vice Rector of Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa; and Mr. Yi Yan, CEO of IF Language School and Secretary-General of the Jiangxi Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia.

In his remarks, Principal Zhao Guobao said that the school is located in Fangchenggang, Guangxi, a frontier port city facing ASEAN, and has long adhered to open education and devoted itself to training technical and skilled talents. Noting that this is the school's first inter-institutional cooperation with an Indonesian university, he said the school will follow a “pilot first, pragmatic progress” approach: making online academic exchanges a regular practice, exploring mutual learning among faculty, and carrying out student exchange programmes and joint online courses, so as to turn the text of the memorandum into tangible cooperation projects.

Prof. Ir. Alfirano, ST., MT, Vice Rector of UNTIRTA, noted in his remarks that the university is located in Banten Province, which has a strong industrial base, and has more than 35,000 students and over 70 study programmes. It is committed to building itself into a high-level university that is healthy, integrated, smart and green, and hopes to serve as a “water tower” from which knowledge flows to society and industry. He expressed the hope that the two sides will cooperate in vocational and technical education, applied research and innovation, faculty capacity building and industry linkages, so that student exchanges and faculty collaboration can truly take root.

Mr. Yi Yan said that as more and more Chinese enterprises enter Indonesia, demand is growing for professionals who understand technical work and can communicate in Mandarin. IF Language School is ready to contribute to language education, talent development and China-Indonesia exchanges and cooperation, creating more growth opportunities for young people in both countries.

Subsequently, representatives of the two institutions signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding online and jointly unveiled the plaque of the Centre. Under the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in expert lectures, academic seminars, mutual visits of faculty and researchers, sharing of teaching resources, joint online education, student exchanges, short-term courses and social services.

The unveiling ceremony marks the entry of the two institutions’ cooperation into a phase of substantive implementation. Going forward, the two sides will closely align vocational education cooperation with industry needs, jointly cultivate technical and skilled talents with an international perspective, deepen China-Indonesia people-to-people friendship through educational exchanges, and contribute more to the “going global” of vocational education and China-ASEAN educational cooperation.

The Philippines is in talks with Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United States to store oil in the fuel-import-dependent nation, in a bid to hedge against fuel price spikes driven by the Iran war. The Southeast Asian nation, which imports nearly all ‌its energy needs, also planned to increase diesel and gas-fired power output to make up for an estimated 60 per cent decline in hydropower and 20 per cent fall in solar output in the first half of 2027 due to the El Nino weather phenomenon, Energy...

Japan’s US$6 billion port plan aims to revive Bangladesh’s bruised economy

Japan’s push to expand industrial and port cooperation with Bangladesh could transform the South Asian country into a regional trade gateway, analysts say, connecting markets in Southeast Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific while diversifying Dhaka’s economic ties. The plan was announced during Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to Japan this week. Rahman welcomed Tokyo’s pledge of US$6 billion in investment over the next five years, which could help revive an economy hit by...

China said it would seek India’s help to “maintain peace and stability in the border areas” after new stand-offs in a long-disputed region threatened to undermine improved relations. “We hope that India will work with China in the same direction by jointly implementing the common understandings between the two sides,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a daily media briefing on Monday. China “strictly abides by the relevant agreements”, he said. Guo also said that China...

How Lao Gan Ma, China’s iconic chilli brand, got caught in an AI storm

For three decades, Lao Gan Ma’s glass jars, bearing the stern portrait of founder Tao Huabi, have been a fixture on Chinese dinner tables and a symbol of traditional food manufacturing. This week, however, the iconic chilli sauce has become an unlikely focus of public anxiety over artificial intelligence. Online rumours that the Guizhou-based company had replaced hundreds of factory workers with AI went viral, prompting boycott threats and highlighting growing public unease over the impact of...

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party has come under fire for a 2024 political cartoon depicting Bluey driving a car over an Australian politician. That cartoon in particular has come into the spotlight since a man...

In Melaka, is avoiding another Umno rout Anwar’s best hope?

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is up against it in next month’s Melaka state poll, as his ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition risks yet another electoral wipeout at the hands of its federal partner Umno. The two are competing head-to-head in nearly all of the 28 state assembly seats up for grabs on November 14, in a contest widely seen as favouring an incumbent state administration led by the United Malays National Organisation’s Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Whether BN holds onto...

Singapore court fines behavioural therapist for hurting autistic boy who hit her

A Singaporean behavioural therapist who was repeatedly hit in the face by a four-year-old boy with special needs grabbed his hand and dragged him off his chair and onto the floor. Tricia Lee Hsien, 29, was fined S$5,000 (US$3,900) by a court on Wednesday. She pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt to a minor.
