ChatGPT Plumber Visibility - What It Checks Before Naming a Business: Guide

Nov 8, 2026

Profit Acuity's new guide explains why ChatGPT may skip plumbing companies for tankless water heater questions, covering crawlability, direct answers, consistent business listings, and third-party credibility checks for better AI visibility.

Center Valley, United States, November 8, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- Profit Acuity has published a guide addressing a problem many plumbing company owners now face: being absent from ChatGPT's answers to homeowner questions despite having a working, well-ranked website. The guide centers on a common example, a homeowner asking whether a tankless water heater is worth the cost, and walks through the checks a business must pass before ChatGPT will name it. Those checks cover whether the crawler can read the site, whether the content answers the specific question asked, whether business details match across listings, and whether outside sources back up the company's credibility.

The full guide on why a business is not showing up on ChatGPT cites SOCi's 2026 Local Visibility Index, which tracked more than 350,000 business locations and found that ChatGPT recommended only 1.2% of them, according to Profit Acuity.

Homeowners increasingly research big-ticket purchases through AI tools before they contact a business, asking about tankless water heater costs and value well before calling a plumber, which means AI answers now function as an early front door to local plumbing work. Most plumbing websites were never built to answer one buyer question directly, and the guide identifies this as the main reason many sites are missing from these answers even though they perform well in traditional search results.

The first technical check concerns crawlability. ChatGPT search relies on a crawler called OAI-SearchBot to find and surface websites in its answers, so a site that blocks this crawler will not appear there, though it may still show up as an ordinary navigation link. According to the guide, this blocking sometimes happens by accident, through a security plugin or hosting setting that was never meant to affect ChatGPT search specifically.

Being crawlable is only the first hurdle. A services page listing tank and tankless water heater installation does not answer a homeowner's specific question about whether tankless is worth the investment. The guide recommends publishing a direct answer that covers installed cost, operating savings, and the circumstances where tankless makes sense, so the page itself becomes a strong candidate source for that exact question for plumbing owners aiming to be the business ChatGPT names.

Consistency of business details forms the next check. The guide recommends aligning a plumbing company's name, address, phone number, hours, and service towns across its website and business listings, since conflicting details can make it harder for an AI system to confidently associate a company with a given location and trust its information.

The guide closes by addressing outside validation. It recommends pairing a strong website answer with specific customer reviews naming the actual service performed, along with the same answer published in other formats such as a short video or social post, so every source an AI tool might consult tells a consistent story. Profit Acuity works with plumbing companies to put these fixes in place as part of building visibility across search, video, social, and AI answers.

AI will soon master biology, unleashing new safety risks, Tencent AI chief warns

Artificial intelligence models will soon be powerful enough to master biology, presenting both benefits and serious risks, Tencent Holdings’ chief AI scientist and former OpenAI star researcher Vinces Yao Shunyu said during a rare public appearance on Saturday. The assessment comes as frontier AI systems are increasingly being applied to medicine and biology, which could accelerate discovery of new drugs and other treatments. However, experts also warn that malicious actors could use AI to...

India questions US ‘double standards’ as Pakistan secures F-16 upgrade deal

Washington’s decision to upgrade Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets has drawn accusations of double standards from critics in India, who question why the United States is strengthening a nuclear-armed ally while waging war against Iran over its nuclear programme. Although the US$686 million military modernisation package does not include nuclear weapons, analysts say that improvements to the fighter jets’ navigation, communications and survivability could boost Pakistan’s existing nuclear strike...

Why raising prices in Japan amid ‘insanely high’ inflation backfires on firms

When Japan’s “symbol of affordability” Uniqlo decided to increase the price of its basic socks last month, it sparked a backlash before the clothing titan made an immediate U-turn. That came after Italian-style family restaurant chain Saizeriya issued an almost grovelling apology as it decided to add 20 yen (US$0.13) to the price of its trademark Milanese Doria, lamenting its “lack of effort”. The very public angst, including in one of the world’s most recognisable clothing brands, highlights...

Southeast Asia’s green push brings solar power, but who pays to keep it on?

For most of his life, Osman Uki lived in a world dictated by the sun, relying on kerosene and leftover cooking oil to light his home in a remote indigenous village in Malaysia. That changed in April when solar power finally reached Kampung Bertang in the state of Pahang, allowing families to power electric lights, refrigerators and rice cookers. For Osman, one of the biggest changes is what happens after sunset. “We are happy with the light we have at night. The kids can read at night now. We...

Indonesians furious as Batam data centres drain taps: ‘we cannot cook without water’

Cooking and bathing became difficult when taps ran dry in Batam, an Indonesian island where residents are protesting against data centres springing up to power the global artificial intelligence boom. The area had suffered a “long drought” caused by low rainfall, the local water utility operator said, as a strong El Nino cycle exacerbates dry weather. But, as in other countries, anger has been directed at the data centres, warehouse-like facilities that keep apps and AI tools running, with water...

Japan rethinks its stalking laws after Pokemon store murder

Long before Moe Harukawa was killed, she lived in fear. The 21-year-old shop assistant had reported her ex-boyfriend to police and a court had ordered him to stay away from her. Yet weeks later, Taiki Hirokawa, 26, walked into Harukawa’s workplace – a packed Pokemon store in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district – and stabbed her repeatedly in the neck and torso before turning the knife he was carrying on himself. Both later died in hospital. Harukawa’s gruesome murder in March at the hands of a man who...

When her prescription for Mounjaro became too expensive, Bey* did what a growing number of Malaysians are doing: she found a cheaper vial online. The 34-year-old from Kuala Lumpur started on the weight-loss drug about a year ago and hasn’t looked back since. “I didn’t feel like eating, I didn’t feel hungry,” she said, recalling flying to Jakarta for a “food trip” recently during which she barely ate. Reviews on Threads and TikTok led her to online sellers offering “tirzepatide”, Mounjaro’s...
