CD BioGlyco, a biotechnology company that provides a full range of glycobiology-related products, analysis, services and design to advance glycobiology research, now provides one-stop sialic acid analysis to assist scientists with their research.
Sialic acid is a general term for a family of nine-carbon sugar neuraminic acid complexes. Its main derivative in human tissues is N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac or NANA), which is located at the end of the glycoprotein and glycolipid structure. Under physiological conditions, sialic acid is covered with other carbohydrates, glycolipids and proteins attached to it, such as glucose, galactose and acetylgalactosamine and the hydrophobic group of gangliosides—ceramide, so that it is not affected by its own immune system recognition. Therefore, the difference in the spatial arrangement of sialic acid and the number of self-polymerization will lead to the physical asymmetry and structural differences between glycolipids and glycoproteins, which lays the foundation for their respective physiological functions.
To further assist scientists with their research, CD BioGlyco has developed precise, simple and rapid methods for quantifying and analyzing sialic acid.
Utilizing high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD), CD BioGlyco gives an efficient analysis of sialic acid (HPAEC-PAD). Additionally, the company uses liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to measure sialic acids and sialylated proteins (LC-MS). Using fluorometric assays, such as 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid, thiobarbiturate, pyridoxaminepyridoxine, acetylacetone/periodic acid, and acetoacetanilide/ammonia, CD BioGlyco helps quantify the presence of sialic acids.
At present, CD BioGlyco mainly provides the following services for the analysis of sialic acid:
Strategies for Sialic Acid Analysis
Aberrant Sialylation in Cancers
Custom Sialyl Tumour Antigen Production Service

The alleged murder of an Okinawan woman by a US marine has put newly elected Governor Genta Koja under intense pressure, raising questions about whether the incident could deepen opposition against the American military presence just as Okinawa assumes greater importance in Japan’s regional security strategy. Koja only took office on September 30 after campaigning on economic issues rather than the dispute over American troops based in the prefecture, which has dominated local politics for...
