If an underwriter sees erratic bank transfers, persistent overdraft reliance, or regular betting transactions, it can flag you as a higher-risk borrower or raise concerns about how you're managing your money, resulting in a decline. A recent payday loan is even more serious, and on its own can be enough for a most lenders to decline outright."

Adverse Mortgage Advisors highlights that while mainstream lenders can decline applicants where these patterns raise concerns around affordability, credit history or financial conduct, the specialist lending market can take a more individual approach. Specialist lenders may consider applicants with significantly more complex credit histories, including recent missed payments, defaults and CCJs, depending on the circumstances surrounding them and the overall application.
