Following the recent update, Interventional Orthopedics of Washington offers long Covid patients a minimally invasive procedure known as Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) to treat their symptoms, including fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, and loss of taste and smell, among others. It may also be effective for other conditions like dysautonomia, POTS, migraines, PTSD, and anxiety disorders.

The announcement coincides with clinical trials published by the US National Library of Medicine that show positive case studies and clinical results for patients who undergo SGB for various medical conditions. By offering this treatment to their patients, Interventional Orthopedics of Washington helps them reduce or eliminate their symptoms without taking more medication.

Dr. Otono Silva, the lead doctor for SGB procedures at the treatment center, uses ultrasound technology to visualize the nerve system and deliver a local anesthetic to the targeted nerve. This action disrupts cervical sympathetic chain activity, effectively rebooting the autonomic nervous system. Precision in guiding the needle is ensured by the ultrasound, which allows for accurate treatment of the stellate ganglion, a nerve group in the neck.

SGB treatment is an outpatient procedure that takes less than 10 minutes to complete, followed by a short recovery period in the clinic. Patients can return home the same day, though they are required to have someone drive them home as the procedure may cause some temporary side effects like drowsiness or Horner’s Syndrome.

“The SGB is used to temporarily turn off the fight or flight sympathetic system using an anesthetic. As the numbing medicine wears off over the course of a few hours, the sympathetic system is then able to turn back on, which can result in a new state that is more in harmony with the greater autonomic system. You can think of this as turning off your computer and restarting it if a program is glitchy. By temporarily numbing or 'blocking' the traffic in the cervical sympathetic chain, it is believed that the parts of the brain that control the fight or flight response are allowed to reset, resulting in relief of symptoms,” a representative said.

Malaysians choose family over shopping or holidays, domestic travel data shows

Malaysians delight in visiting family and friends, so much so that these visits made up 44 per cent of domestic travel. They enjoy seeing their loved ones even more than shopping (21.6 per cent) and holidaying (13 per cent), as shown in the latest numbers from the Statistics Department on domestic tourism in the second quarter of this year. The 44 per cent recorded is even higher than last year’s trend in domestic tourism where “visiting relatives and friends remained the primary purpose of...

Laotian man freed from eSwatini jail 14 months after US third-country deportation

A Laotian citizen deported by the United States to eSwatini under Donald Trump administration’s immigration crackdown was released from a maximum-security prison in the African nation on Sunday after being held there for more than a year, his lawyer said. Phone Chomsavanh was among five immigrants deported to eSwatini – where he has no ties – in July 2025, in the early days of the Trump administration’s secretive and highly contentious third-country deportation programme. Malaysia’s Anwar set to unveil crowd-pleasing budget as political pressure rises

Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim is expected to roll out a populist budget on Friday aimed at placating voter concerns over the cost of living and access to essential services, experts say, as the prime minister seeks to shore up support ahead of a general election that could be called as soon as next year. Anwar’s coalition government is under mounting pressure amid a deepening feud with Umno. The Malay nationalist party, a key partner in Anwar’s administration, has demanded a snap poll after defeating...

Dario Amodei’s American AI imperialism

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei seems to believe that he, the American artificial intelligence (AI) industry and the United States are the only ones who should have the right to determine the fate of humanity. While he pays lip service to involving other democracies in AI development, which ones remotely approach the technological capacities of the US and China? Do other non-democratic developing countries not count? His self-belief is far more dangerous than mere commercial greed. Like Peter Thiel,...

Ukraine believes Russia shared jet-drone technology with North Korea, says Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday he believed Russia may have shared jet-drone technology with its long-standing ally North Korea. In recent weeks, Russia has sharply increased its use of jet-drones against Ukraine, which so far has no effective means of countering them other than using ‌combat aircraft. Earlier in the war, North Korea supplied Russia with millions of artillery shells and it has since provided ballistic missiles that Moscow regularly uses to attack...

How the ‘G2’ effect of Trump-Xi summit is reverberating through Asia

For American and Chinese people interested in the outcome of the latest summit between China’s President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, their conclusions could not be more different if they turn to the media and pundits for guidance. Chinese state media spared no superlative, echoing the official description of the summit as: forging the right way for the major powers to get along and writing a new chapter in ties. It played up the fact that Trump gave Xi the highest-level reception...

Nearly 1,500 Myanmar nationals who were sent back from Malaysia arrived in the country’s largest city on Sunday despite warnings from the UN refugee agency and rights groups that conditions for return remain unsafe.
