Nov 21, 2023

The National School Chaplain Association (405-831-3299), the world’s largest provider of accredited school chaplains, is now reaching out to schools in Angleton, Texas, that want to enrich their school community with a chaplain.

School chaplains are now able to work in public and private institutions in the state of Texas, and the National School Chaplain Association trains and accredits certified chaplains with a suitable skill-set to work in elementary, middle, and high schools. Now, as a part of their ongoing community outreach work in Texas, the National School Chaplain Association is specifically reaching out to the heads of schools and school districts in and around Angleton, who feel their school is in need of additional support.

At a time of unparalleled challenges facing children and teenagers in American schools, including high rates of bullying and cyberbullying, threats of gun violence, profound anxiety and depression, gender confusion, and more, the National School Chaplain Association has seen that chaplains can play a vital role.

As the association explained, “Suicide, anxiety, and depression have reached epidemic levels in US schools. Chaplaincy has been proven to dissipate tension, resolve conflict, and bring hope.”

Within a school community, a school chaplain can create a safe space in which students can come for non-judgmental support, empathetic listening and empowering advice. In a state with a significant dearth of mental health support services, a school chaplain can be a powerful ally to schools in improving emotional wellbeing, not only amongst students but also among teachers and parents.

Because certified school chaplains with the National School Chaplain Association are trained to be far-reaching in their approach, they will engage with all members of a school community and provide support at every level. Part of their mission is also to boost local community building by organizing and running social activities; understanding that fostering real engagement and community is also key to tackling the issues that schools today face.

The National School Chaplain Association is determined to make schools in Texas safer and happier spaces. Following the passing of the Chaplain Bill in Texas this year, countless schools are now seeing how a chaplain can transform lives.

A spokesperson for the association said, “Hiring a chaplain at your school directly impacts the lives of students, staff, educators, and communities through increased school safety, better teacher retention, and enhanced mental health support.”

Asia must guard against repeat of 1997 financial crisis: Philippine central bank chief

Asian countries must remind themselves about what happened during the region’s financial crisis in the late 1990s and guard against a recurrence of such shocks, the head of the Philippine central bank said ‌on Wednesday. Submerged to save Bangkok: rural Thais bear brunt of capital’s flood defences

Stilt houses in villages north of Bangkok are no longer high enough to stay dry as Thai authorities deliberately flood riverside communities to spare the capital. Inside the home of Kamonchanok Sathaphonamonwut, raised more than three metres (10 feet) above the ground in Ayutthaya province, her family of three sleeps on makeshift platforms and cannot use the waterlogged toilet. Her village has been flooded six years in a row, pushing some to move away, while others have raised their houses...

Indonesia’s Bali hit by fuel crisis as huge queues form at petrol stations

Motorists have been left queuing for hours at petrol stations across Indonesia’s resort island of Bali in recent days amid reports of a crippling fuel shortage. Long queues have been spotted all around the island, including in the capital Denpasar, Badung and Tabana, according to the Bali Post. On Tuesday, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster stressed that there was enough fuel to go around, suggesting that panic buying might have caused the shortages at the pumps. “People need to be patient because the...

Why younger Japanese now fear Trump’s US more than China

A growing number of Japanese regard the United States as the greatest threat to world peace ahead of traditional rival China, according to a new survey. The annual poll, released by the Japan Press Research Institute on Saturday, found 26.8 per cent of respondents named the US as the biggest threat to global peace. That was up 9.3 percentage points on last year and far above the 6.6 per cent recorded in 2024. Russia came top of the list in 2025 but slipped to third place this year, with 18.3 per...
