Oct 23, 2026

Wuhu, China, October 23, 2026 -- On October 21, media representatives, KOLs and user representatives from more than 10 countries and regions gathered in Moganshan, China for the 2026 SOUEAST Global Technology Experience Day. Through test drives, participants experienced the SOUEAST S08 DM firsthand and explored the strength of its C-DM Hybrid System across diverse road conditions.

C-DM Hybrid System Tested in Real-World Driving Conditions

The true value of technology lies not merely in specifications, but in the experience and performance it delivers on real journeys.

The undulating slopes and consecutive curves of Moganshan provided real-world conditions to experience the S08 DM’s power response, handling and chassis tuning. Powered by the C-DM Hybrid System, which combines a 1.5TD hybrid-dedicated engine with the stepless electric hybrid DHT transmission, the S08 DM delivers a maximum combined power of 255 kW and maximum combined torque of 525 N.m.

On the light off-road gravel section, the S08 DM tackled uneven terrain with a resilient chassis that effectively absorbed road impacts. It also delivered smooth braking performance, a steady body control and a quiet cabin experience, demonstrating a well-balanced combination of stability and comfort.

The S08 DM’s impressive range and efficiency further enhance its versatility for diverse mobility needs. Delivering a combined range of over 800 km with a full tank and full charge and fuel consumption as low as 5.3L/100 km with a depleted battery, the S08 DM balances the efficiency of daily pure electric commuting with the range needs of long-distance travel, offering family users more flexible mobility options.

“The S08 DM feels effortless to drive, with quick power response and steady handling, and it feels like driving a sedan,” commented an media journalist. “Pure electric driving makes daily commutes more economical and convenient, while its long range offers confidence for long trips, making it a practical choice for families.”

Ample Space & Comfort Features for Family Journeys

Beyond dynamic test drives, attendees explored the S08 DM’s interior layout and comfort features through a static experience, gaining a deeper understanding of its design tailored for family travel. A “Fun Loading Challenge” was also held at the event, where media representatives were grouped to complete randomly assigned tasks. They loaded special items into the vehicle, including a 3.5-meter-long giraffe plush toy and a portable football goal measuring 3.5 meters in length and 2 meters in width when unfolded. By adjusting seat configurations and exploring different interior layouts, participants experienced the S08 DM’s flexible loading capability firsthand.

Measuring 4,810 mm in length and 2,820 mm in wheelbase, the S08 DM features a 2+3+2 seven-seat layout, offering up to 32 seat configurations. Through the central control screen, users can switch between four modes with one touch: Home Bed, Driver Bed, Travel Pallet and Parking Sofa, which enable the vehicle to meet different mobility needs including long-distance travel, rest breaks and outdoor camping. The front seats come with heating, ventilation, 10-point massage, and memory functions, delivering enhanced comfort. Additionally, the 15.6-inch central control screen, intelligent voice interaction system and 3.3 kW V2L external discharge bring greater convenience to family journeys.

From its flexible space layout to its comfort features, the S08 DM is designed for family needs across different travel scenarios, making daily commuting, long-distance travel and outdoor camping more effortless and convenient.

Rooted in real-life travel experiences, SOUEAST continues to explore the synergy between technology and travel lifestyles. Guided by its “Travel+” strategy, the brand aims to integrate technology into travel scenarios, delivering more enriched travel experiences.

South Korea’s latest chart sensation has a secret: the singer isn’t human

A little-known South Korean music act has climbed the charts with a viral hit that has caught listeners off guard – not just for its sudden popularity, but because its vocals were generated entirely by artificial intelligence. Meomuru’s single, “Have You Become the Adult You Dreamed Of?”, climbed to No 2 on Melon’s Top 100 – South Korea’s flagship streaming chart – earlier this week. The track’s popularity has turned Meomuru into one of the country’s most-talked-about acts. The song was created...

Southeast Asia’s EV boom sidelines local car parts suppliers

Southeast Asia’s electric vehicle boom risks leaving the region’s smaller companies behind, as Chinese automotive giants bypass local part-makers in favour of imported components and locked-in supplier networks. Local manufacturers across Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are facing a double squeeze: demand is weakening for parts used in petrol and diesel cars, collectively known as internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, while steep barriers to entry also keep them out of EV supply...

FBI blames North Korea for stolen billions from Binance in biggest hack in history

The theft of billions of dollars from Binance within a matter of minutes, the biggest cryptocurrency heist in history, was orchestrated by North Korean hackers, the FBI said on Saturday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that this week’s attack was tied to “malicious cyber activity” by an entity known as TraderTraitor, the same actors behind a US$1.5 billion Bybit hack last year. The FBI asked cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain analytics companies and others to block...

SI is the future of AI – just not in the way Trump thinks

With US President Donald Trump recently pushing the use of “superintelligence” (SI) instead of artificial intelligence (AI) in national discourse, the acronym has gained unprecedented attention. It is the right acronym but the wrong meaning. In my opinion, SI should stand for “self-intelligence”. It probably explains why academics, critics and even major AI companies are calling for a temporary pause in AI development. They must have realised the technology’s current trajectory is headed down...

200 nations at Cop17 commit to biodiversity goals amid missed opportunities

Nearly 200 nations have struck hard-fought agreements at a UN biodiversity summit, but the outcome was accompanied by disappointment over missed opportunities to address humanity’s destructive toll on nature. Delegates cheered on Friday as crucial texts were approved in overtime but the celebrations were tempered by acrimonious debates and regret over limited progress on some of the most contentious issues. The Cop17 summit in Armenia sought to revive a landmark commitment to halt and reverse...

Apple Intelligence to roll out on iPhones in China in December with Alibaba backing

The first batch of Apple Intelligence services will roll out to Chinese iPhone users alongside the iOS 27.3 update in December, following an open beta test with developers starting November 4, the US company said in a...

Both Japan and China can help Bangladesh reach its full potential

In the Land of the Rising Sun, Bangladesh looks forward to a new dawn. The hope that comes with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Japan goes beyond the deals signed or the financial support expected. It shows a country that has emerged from authoritarian rule and wants to turn its new political voice into bigger economic chances and freedom of choice. For a government chosen by the people, foreign policy must answer one question: how does it make life better for the people who gave it...

Can battery swapping and energy storage power CATL’s next phase of growth?

Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd (CATL) has doubled down on new businesses including battery swapping and energy storage as the world’s largest battery maker seeks new growth drivers amid intensifying price wars and mounting pressure on profitability. But the new path is far from straightforward. Established players like Nio have already built a strong presence in battery swapping, while BYD has reinforced its position in energy-storage systems. China joins global race to reawaken brain-injury patients through ultrasound therapy

After spending three months in a coma following a brain haemorrhage, a patient in China has regained the ability to speak, eat and walk with support – part of an early clinical trial using targeted sound waves to help “wake up” severely damaged brains, according to state media. The technology, developed by a coalition including the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, used focused ultrasound waves to stimulate regions deep within the brain without requiring...
